All Tasks completes 600 thousand pages of translation for the telecommunications sector

All Tasks, leading company in the South American multilingual services market, has translated about 600 thousand pages, corresponding to 102 million words, for major players in the telecommunications sector. Among the most significant projects was the first software localization in Brazil for Lucent, with the translation technical proposals and documentation for that company. Another important project was the work done for the launch of the first Smart Phone by the German company Siemens.

There was a huge demand for the service of All Tasks between 1991 and 1998, a period in which there was a high concentration of technology imports resulting from the expansion of the telecommunications market in Brazil. The first major project carried out by the company was the translation of the technical documentation, amounting to 120,000 pages, for the Digital Switching Device manufactured by Lucent - now Alcatel-Lucent.

The company has also worked for ATT/Lucent on the preparation of technical proposals for the many competitive tenders that the state-owned companies were bringing to the market at the time. This growth in demand created a need to open a support center in São Paulo’s South Zone.

The structure of this location was adapted to the needs of the professionals available for the projects hired, informs Thiana Donato, founder and director of All Tasks. “On some days, we would need only one person to man the office, whereas a few days later, we might need a team of thirty professionals, including technical writers, translators and designers”, she added.

The software used by Lucent's Digital Switching Device was the first to be localized in the telecommunications sector. The operation was carried out by the All Tasks team, which once again, was a pioneer in the Brazilian translations market. By 1992, the company was providing Lucent with over 100 thousand pages of translation a year.

All Tasks has also being involved in helping Siemens of Germany to localize its first Smart Phone, this time working from German into other 26 other languages. This project, like most of the other projects, was carried out with utmost urgency. The company needed to have the material ready in thirty days, to avoid delays in the product launch.

Companies like Nec, Motorola, Nortel, Bell South, Bell Canada, Ameritech, Alcatel, and Siemens have hired the services of All Tasks for the translation of tens of thousands of pages, for the implementation of wireless telephone systems or to import products and technology. The glossaries produced to support the projects were developed based on national and international research, and have had a major influence on standardizing the technical terminology used in the sector.
