Published in a so considered noble section, the matter highlighted the opinion of the President at All Tasks, Thiana Donato, who commented on the scenario of the work developed by the professionals in the industry and also about the importance of investments in Information Technology aiming at performance optimization.
In the typical language of this industry, the software products involved in this kind of service were named as Language Technologies. Their several applications are in charge of controlling document versions; creating and managing the successful translation memories; managing projects and several other aspects that involve large-scale translation services.
Never before that translators relied on such diversity of supporting tools, this assuring style coherence and standardization along the text, process speed, quality improvement and cost reductions, in a time when their clients, inserted in the globalization process, are required to apply large amounts of funds aimed at this purpose.
We must emphasize: it is important to value the aspects of language technologies aimed at providing support to translators, but strongly reject “automatic translation”, which has, among other weaknesses, the characteristic of not provisioning the subjective language aspects. While the aspects of the technology that provide support to the translator enhance the quality of translations, the aspects directly involved with the translation itself corrupts the meaning of texts; while the former saves costs, the latter brings a lot of illusions in that sense, and may cause significant losses.
Then, it is renewed the perennial conclusion that man will be rarely replaced by technology in terms of translation works, but he surely can and must use the valuable support provided by the technology in his activities.
There is a great lack of information about the translation industry in Brazil and this is the first time when a Brazilian newspaper covers this subject in a so detailed way. As market leaders and pioneers in the utilization of this technology in the country, All Tasks assumes the commitment of clarifying the details inherent to Language Technologies from the issue 8 of our Newsletter, Traduzir em Notícias (www.traduziremnoticias.com.br), by sharing its opinions with the market. We will cover the subject in a very simple and didactical way, including all the complex aspects involved.
